Love Letter
I have written a love letter to myself
it is etched onto my skin.
Child, Daughter, Mother, Wife,
there is a line where each begins.
My body is a monument
to all these different stages.
So no matter how age alters it
I won’t grieve the subtle changes.
Because my body is amazing
far more than just skin deep.
It has embraced me all my life
nurtured babies off to sleep.
Danced me into love
and instinctively run away.
Faithfully protected me,
every, single, day.
So I won’t use a mirror
to unkindly count its flaws.
I will celebrate each mark made
on a skin that I adore.
